Saltby Airfield Visit

Key Stage 2 children had the opportunity to visit Buckminster Gliding Club at Saltby Airfield. The visit was not only educational but thought provoking, as the children learned about the history of the 151 / 156 Battalion, The Parachute Regiment, and their role in Operation Market Garden during WWII.

The children explored army vehicles, tried on military hats, and even sounded the air raid siren! They listened attentively as they learned about the brave soldiers who departed from Saltby Airfield between 17th–22nd September 1944 for the airborne landings at Arnhem.

We were especially proud of how respectful and engaged our pupils were during the short memorial service. Their behaviour was exemplary, and we received lovely feedback about how welcome their presence was.

A heartfelt thank you to Alan Page from Buckminster Gliding Club for hosting us, and to Sarah Tookey, our Chair of Governors, for arranging this special visit.

Here are a few photographs from our trip.
